+ What food items should/can I donate?

a. Non-perishable foods that are unopened and within date
b. Prepared foods that were made in a commercial kitchen, handled and stored appropriately (call if there is any doubt)
c. Perishable foods that are unopened and within date
d. Frozen foods that were frozen before the expiration date and have been frozen for less than one year

+ What food items should I NOT donate?

a. Anything opened or expired
b. Any prepared food that people were allowed to serve themselves
c. Foods that haven’t been handled or stored properly
d. Items that have been frozen for more than a year

+ Would you prefer I donate money or food?

a. Either type of donation is helpful for us. If you’re up for shopping, give us a call and ask what food items we most need.
b. If you’d rather donate money, we are happy to do our own shopping.
c. In terms of food acquisition, it is more economical for us for you to donate
food. When we purchase food, we have staff time and transportation costs associated.

+ When and where can I drop off food?

We really only accept food donations at our main location at 1515 S Rogers St. Food donations can be dropped off from 8am-6pm Monday - Saturday and 11am-6pm on Saturdays. Drive around to the back of the building and ring the doorbell.

+ Can I do my community service hours at Community Kitchen?

Of course! Give June a call at 812-332-0999 to get your hours scheduled.

+ How old do I have to be to volunteer?

a. We take volunteers from age 10 up.
b. If you’re 10-13, an adult must schedule and volunteer with you.
c. Youth 14 and up can volunteer on their own

+ Do I need to commit to a recurring shift in order to volunteer at Community Kitchen?

No. We’ll take you for one time ever, a recurring weekly shift, or anything in between!

+ Can I get my COVID vaccine at Community Kitchen?

Not at this time. If it becomes possible for Community Kitchen to hold a vaccine clinic for our patrons, we will post that information as soon as we have it.

+ What time do you serve meals?

a. At our main (1515 S Rogers St) and Express (1100 W 11th St) locations, we serve from 4-6pm, Monday - Saturday
b. At our Ellettsville locations, we serve Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday Edgewood Apartments 4:00 -4:30pm Richland Senior Apartments 4:45-5:15pm Ellettsville branch of MC Public Library 5:30-6:30 pm
