Community Kitchen fights hunger through these programs:
917 S Rogers Street
sit down meals
Community Kitchen serves
dinner from 4-6pm, Monday - Saturday all year long, with no
questions asked. These meals consist of a main entree, a vegetarian
option, side vegetable, salad, fruit, desserts and beverages. In
addition, cold carryout meals are available. We do an average of 200
of these each day.
Community Kitchen Express
Community Kitchen provides both warm and cold carryout meals from
our second location at 1100 W 11th St from 4-6pm, Monday - Saturday,
no questions asked. These meals consist of a main entree, side item
and fruit, with milk served as a beverage. We do an average of 128
of these each day.
Feed Our Future
Through the FOF Program, we provide sack lunch type meals to at-risk
children and youth in after-school programs. These meals include a
sandwich, fruit or vegetable and milk or juice. We provide these to
children at both Boys & Girls Clubs, Girls Inc., Broadview Teen
Learning Center, The Childcare program at Middle Way's The Rise, and
Rhino's Youth Center. We provide approximately 633 of these each
week.
Backpack Buddies
We provide backpacks of weekend food to selected low-income children
at four local elementary schools. Children receive the backpack of
food on Friday afternoon to help their families with the weekend
food needs. We are currently providing this service at Fairview,
Summit, Arlington, Grandview and Clear Creek Elementary Schools. We do 90-100 of
these each school week.
Summer Breakfast Program
While school is out in the summer, we know that the approximately
30% of MCCSC school children who receive free or reduced meals at
school, are likely at a nutritional disadvantage. We provide a free,
nutritious sack breakfast including grain, fruit and dairy
components each Monday - Friday to children in eight low-income
neighborhoods. This program operates while school is closed for the
summer and serves children in Countryview, Walnut Woods, Henderson
Court, Crestmont, Arlington Valley Trailer Court, Arlington Heights,
Orchard Glen and Heatherwood Trailer Park. We provide an average of
12,000 breakfasts through this program each summer.
Nutrition Links
Through this program, two carryout meals per day are delivered by
volunteers, free of charge, to selected local HIV+ patients. To
provide this service we partner with Bloomington Hospital's Positive
Link. They do the case management, identify those who need the
program and coordinate delivery volunteers.
